Triple J Announces Date For Hottest 100 Of 2018 Countdown

162

Triple j has finally revealed when the 2018 edition of its Hottest 100 countdown will take place.

After controversially moving the annual event away from Australia Day and onto “the fourth weekend of January”, triple j held its Hottest 100 of 2017 on Saturday, 27th January 2018.

This time around, the broadcaster has decided to hold the Hottest 100 of 2018 on Sunday, 27th January 2019, to avoid Australia Day on Saturday, 26th January.

The Hottest 200 will follow on Monday, 28th January, which will be observed as a national public holiday in 2019.

Voting for the Hottest 100 of 2018 will open at 8am AEDT Monday, 10th December, and will close at 9am AEDT Tuesday, 22nd January.

Songs by the likes of Childish Gambino, Drake, Amy Shark, Post Malone, Ocean Alley, Travis Scott and RÜFÜS DU SOL are expected to place highly in the countdown, which will be the 26th tally of triple j listeners’ favourite tracks.

Kendrick Lamar claimed first place in the Hottest 100 of 2017 with his huge hit ‘HUMBLE.’, becoming the first person of colour to top the countdown.

His win, while expected, did cause some controversy, largely due to the song’s lyrical content.

‘HUMBLE.’ beat out Gang Of Youths’ song ‘Let Me Down Easy’ — which claimed second place — after two statistics experts who were tracking the public’s votes correctly predicted ‘HUMBLE.’ would claim the top spot.

Over 2.35 million votes were case in last year’s countdown, before 3.34 million people tuned in to hear the results, including 30 per cent of 18 to 34-year-old Aussies.
