As The Crow Flies Cover Allman Brothers & Rolling Stones On New Year’s Eve: Full Show Pro-Shot Video

156

Earlier this year Chris Robinson debuted As The Crow Flies, a new band consisting of a handful of his Chris Robinson Brotherhood band mates, a former member of The Black Crowes along with guitarist Marcus King and bassist Andy Hess. The six-piece act reunited for the first time since May for a two-show New Year’s Run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. On Monday the group rang in 2019 with a 17-song set of Black Crowes classics along with a handful of covers from the Allman Brothers Band, The Rolling Stones, The Marshall Tucker Band and more.

The Marcus King Band opened the night with an hour-long eight-song set. The Southern rock and blues act showcased a trio of songs from their 2018 Dave Cobb-produced LP Carolina Confessions delivering takes on “Where I’m Headed,” “Goodbye Carolina” and “Confessions.” The Greenville, South Carolina act closed out their portion of the evening with the seamless pairing of Grand Funk Railroad’s “Sin’s A Good Man’s Brother” and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

Robinson, along with guitarists King and Audley Freed, bassist Andy Hess, drummer Tony Leone and keyboardist Adam MacDougall looked to The Black Crowes’ 1992 hit “Remedy” to kick things off. From there, the six-piece act would cherry pick tunes from the Crowes catalog leaning heavily cuts from their 1990s output serving up tunes from Shake Your Money Maker, Amorica and Three Snakes and One Charm. Fan-favorites were represented with takes on “Sting Me,” “Wiser Time,” “Thorn In My Pride,” “Jealous Again” and their breakthrough cover of “Hard To Handle.”

Additionally, Robinson & Co. also put their stamp on the Allman Brothers Band’s “Revival,” The Rolling Stones “Jumping Jack Flash” and “Hush,” which was made famous by Deep Purple. The sextet offered up show-closing version of “Take The Highway” from The Marshall Tucker Band for their lone encore. Watch full-show pro-shot video courtesy of Relix’s YouTube channel below:
