Dave Matthews Band Busts Out ‘Kill The King’ In Columbus: Multi-Cam Video

242

Dave Matthews Band had an eventful 2018, releasing Come Tomorrow their first new studio album in six years and returning to the road for their first full tours since 2016. The jam scene stalwarts mined their catalog throughout the year for long-lost fan-favorites and deep cuts. During their Fall Tour opener at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio the band delivered four bust outs that included unearthing “Kill The King” for the first time in seven years.

Over the course of the rarities-filled 20-song night, the Charlottesville-born act dusted off their cover Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion” for just the third time since 2011, revived the Everyday track “Sleep to Dream Her,” which had been played a total of nine times since 2003 and gave unreleased tune “Break Free” its first rendering since 2016. The true highlight though came early in the set as they liberated “Kill The King,” which had gone untouched since a one-off take in 2011 – a span of 549 shows. The seemingly forgotten song was debuted in 2006, played a total of seven times before being shelved for five years before it was once again brought out of retirement. DMB went on to play the tune four more times during their recent run of shows. Videographer ChesterCopperpot5 has compiled a multi-cam supercut video featuring taper audio of “Kill The King,” which you can watch below:
