Greensky Bluegrass Continues Tour In Philadelphia With Phish Teases: Full Show Audio

213

On Friday, Greensky Bluegrass continued their recently launched Winter Tour by pulling into The City of Brotherly Love for a gig at The Met Philadelphia. The jamgrass act worked in a healthy dose of teases throughout their two-set night along with dedicating a pair of songs to to Umphrey’s McGee’s Joel Cummins, which included their take on Talking Heads’ “Road To Nowhere.”

The Kalamazoo-based band got their night going with “No Idea” and a cover of The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life.” “Just To Lie” from 2008’s Five Interstates segued into “Bone Digger” that featured the first teases of the night. The five-piece worked in nods to Bill Monore’s “I’m Working On A Building” and the Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider.” Later in the opening set, the band would include a number of Phish-related teases during “Broke Mountain Breakdown.” The traditional bluegrass number features elements of “Moma Dance,” “Sand” and The James Gang’s “Walk Away.” Additionally, the song saw crowd cheer on their home team by singing “Fly Eagles Fly,” the fight song of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Greensky Bluegrass looked to the previously teased “I’m Working On A Building” to open up their second stanza. The band dedicated the paring “Courage For The Road” with Talking Heads’ “Road To Nowhere” to Umphrey’s McGee keyboardist Cummins, who is celebrating his 44th birthday today. The quintet would once again nod to Phish during the pairing of “Before Bring Out Your Dead” and “Bring Out Your Dead” quoting “Axilla II” during the former. Greensky would continue to slip in tunes from other bands during the final two songs of the set teasing Jimi Hendrix’s “Foxy Lady” during “Jaywalking” and Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Love” in “Worried About The Weather.” The band looked to Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City” for their lone encore.
