On Thursday night, jamgrass favorites Greensky Bluegrass kicked off their 2019 tour in support of their new album, All For Money, which is due out on January 18 via the band’s Big Blue Zoo Records imprint. For their tour-opening performance, the group took over Albany, New York’s Palace Theatre, offering up a celebratory concert that featured a new arrangement for the tune “Old Barns.”
During the performance, the band worked through a selection of new tunes that are set to appear on All For Money, including the album’s title track, “All For Money,” in addition to “Murder Of Crows,” “What You Need” and “Like Reflections.” The show opened with a brief run through “A Letter To Seymour” off 2014’s If Sorrows Swim, ahead of another If Sorrows Swim track, “In Control,” and “All For Money.” A well-segued combo featuring “The Four” led into old-school classic “Bottle Dry” followed by “Into The Rafters” and “Like Reflections.” Notably, Keith Kinnear, who works as a tech for the band, appeared during Greensky’s take on “Burn Them,” offering his tambourine skills for the number, before the frame finished out with runs through “Blood Sucking F(r)iends,” “All Four” and “Money For Nothing.”
To kick off the second set, Greensky Bluegrass performed a new arrangement of their classic tune, “Old Barns,” which spanned five-and-a-half minutes. After All For Money’s “Murder Of Crows,” the band invited out their second and final guest of the evening: Guido Batista, who added vibraslap accompaniments to “What You Need.” “Hit Parade Of Love” proceeded a 14-minute cover of Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved,” with the latter featuring teases of Phish’s “Moma Dance.” To finish out the second set, the group moved through “Radio Blues” and “Broken Highways” before a nearly 13-minute “Run Or Die” and set-closing “Windshield.” The band ended the night with a non-stop encore of “Dustbowl Overtures” into “Wheel Hoss.”

In addition to last night’s performance, on Thursday, Greensky Bluegrass released the latest mini-documentary on the group’s forthcoming record, All For Money. The eight-minute video takes its name, “Courage For The Road,” from All For Money’s latest single. It features behind-the-scenes footage of the band in the studio as well as commentary from mandolinist Paul Hoffman, dobro player Anders Beck, bassist Mike Devol and co-producer and engineer Glenn Brown.
