On Monday night, Oteil & Friends wrapped up their four-night New Year’s run at Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Bowl to ring in 2019. Burbridge recruited an all-star cast of musicians for the NYE blowout including keyboardist Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band), guitarists Eric Krasno (Lettuce/Soulive) and John Kadlecik (Furthur, Dark Star Orchestra), drummer Jay Lane (Wolf Bros), trumpeter and vocalist Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band), trombonist and vocalist Natalie Cressman (TAB), and percussionist Weedie Braimah (Trombone Shorty, The Nth Power).

Oteil Burbridge and his Friends opened the show up with “Water In The Desert” before playing the first Bob Dylan cover of the night with “Gotta Serve Somebody”. The all-star cast of musicians was shining brightly all night, with Hartswick and Cressman dazzling the crowd with their vocal prowess. A cover of Jerry Garcia Band‘s “Cats Under The Stars” was next as the band honored Captain Trips with an exploratory, psychedelic jam.

Following “Waiting For A Miracle” and a scorching-hot “Scarlet Begonias”, Oteil and his compadres worked through their second JGB tune of the night with “Rhapsody In Red”. With Seals anchoring the ship on organ, the band brought their first set to a close with “That’s What Love Will Make You Do”.

Following a brief setbreak, Oteil & Friends came back out with “Reuben and Cherise”, before diving into a deep take on the Grateful Dead’s “Eyes Of The World”. Krasno and Kadlecik worked through some spacey sonic landscapes, with Oteil doing what he does best on the low end. The intergalactic exploration made way for a pause, as Burbridge invited up young guitar virtuoso Brandon “Taz” Niederauer to lend a helping hand on a cover of the Soul Survivors “Expressway To Your Heart”, followed by a horn-heavy take on “Turn On Your Lovelight”.

The second Bob Dylan cover of the night came next with “Knockin’ On Heavens Door“, before Taz rejoined the band for “What’s Become Of Mary”, a Kadlecik original he frequently plays with Lane i their Golden Gate Wingmen project. “Bertha” brought set two to a close, with the Brooklyn Bowl crowd hooting and hollering for more.

The raucous crowd was treated to a three-song helping of rock and roll in the encore slot, as the all-stars offered up Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers To Cross”, a take on Krasno’s “Unconditional Love”, and a sing-along “Piece Of My Heart”.
