Railroad Earth kicked off a two-night stand at the 10 Mile Music Hall in Frisco, Colorado on Sunday. The New Jersey-born band was joined by multi-instrumentalist Charlie Rose of (currently on hiatus) Elephant Revival, as well as Bill McKay on keyboards for the entire show.
The jamgrass act kicked off their night with a pairing of setlist staples “Mission Man” and “Rueben’s Train.” The classic material kept coming with takes on “Bread & Water” from 2004’s Good Life, “For Love” from their debut album and Elko-track “Old Man And The Land.” Rose, who played banjo, pedal steel and acoustic guitar at various points, fronted the band to close out their opening set. The Elephant Revival member led the ensemble through a take on “Sing To The Mountain” the title track from the Colorado-based act’s 2008 studio album.
Hazel Dickens’ “Sing For Me” was tapped to open up the second frame of the night. The tune has been used to honor the band’s multi-instrumentalist Andy Goessling, who passed away late last year. Additional highlights included takes on Emmylou Harris’ “Luxury Liner,” the pairing of “Goat” with the Hank Ballard-penned “Tore Up Over You” and “Bird In A House.” Rose once again got time to shine as the collective revisited “Sing To The Mountain” to close the set.
