Ryan Adams revealed yesterday plans to release three albums in 2019. The prolific singer-songwriter followed the initial announcement by sharing information on two of the three records – Big Colors and Wednesdays.
Adams will release Big Colors on April 19 through Blue Note Records/Capitol Records. The album was co-produced by Adams and Beatriz Artola and features contributions from Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Bob Mould. According to the Washington Post’s Power Up newsletter, Big Colors features 15 tracks (find the tracklist below).
“I wish everyone could witness the awe-inspiring sight of Ryan Adams recording in the studio,” Was told Power Up. “The endless flow of brilliant ideas is mind-blowing and he’s clearly tapped into the deepest reaches of the creative ether. His forthcoming album(s) elevate his art form to a whole new stratosphere and it’s an honor and a thrill for all of us at Blue Note Records to work with him. Oh yeah … one other thing: he’s the most underrated guitarist in rock n roll.”
Politico reporter Jake Sherman shared on Twitter an image of what appears to be the Wednesdays album cover. Sherman also posted an image of Adams in a recording studio with Was and Tench. Update: CBS reporter Anthony Mason also shared the tracklist for Wednesdays (below as well), which he confirmed features contributions from Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell and Tench. Adams confirmed with JamBase that Artola co-produced Wednesdays and that Blue Note’s Don Was served as a “spirit guide” during the recording of both records.
Adams’ last full length release was the 2017 album Prisoner.
