Susan Tedeschi Plays With Buddy Guy During Surprise Sit-In Performance In Chicago [Watch]

Susan Tedeschi was in Chicago with her band, Tedeschi Trucks Band, for their annual multi-night residency at the Chicago Theatre over the weekend. The two-show run came to a close on Saturday night, but the party didn’t stop there.

Following Tedeschi Trucks Band’s headlining performance, frontwoman Susan Tedeschi made her way over to see one of Chicago’s most iconic musical exports, Buddy Guy. The famous blues guitarist was playing a show at Buddy Guy’s Legends, where he and his fans in the audience were surprised by the on-stage arrival of Tedeschi, who came out to play a few songs with her friend and colleague.

Tedeschi’s guest appearance during the Sunday late-night concert started about 2/3’s of the way through Guy’s performance, immediately following a Jimmy Page-esque guitar solo with the use of a drum stick. Guy was still riffing away with the use of said stick when the show’s production techs began getting Tedeschi all set up with a guitar to join in on the fun. Guy could be seen with a huge smile across his face as Susan emerged from the side of the stage. She wasted no time in joining in with some smooth solo work of her own while playing Guy’s blue-and-white polka dotted Fender before exchanging hugs with the blues legend.

“How many of y’all know what I found?” Guy yelled over the mic while the audience could be heard cheering for Tedeschi’s surprise arrival. The two continued in exchanging solos before Guy returned to the mic to bring the music down low so he could ask, “Where’s your fucking husband? You didn’t bring him?” He also took a minute to explain how he played a role in Tedeschi getting rid or her previous boyfriend, who he used to refer to as a “mother-fucker.” The two continued their on-stage fun as they then went into playing a duet covers of John Hiatt‘s “Feel Like Rain”, Jimi Hendrix‘s “Voodoo Child”, and Marvin Gaye’s “Ain’t That Peculiar.” Fans can watch the video of Sunday night’s performance below to watch the surprise sit-in in full starting at the 1:18-hour mark.
