Ty Segall Announces New Live Album, ‘Deforming Lobes’

142

Rock guitarist and singer Ty Segall has kept himself awfully busy over the last calendar year. The popular garage rock artist released three studio albums in 2018–one of which was in collaboration with rock outfit White Fence. Segall is continuing the rollout of new recordings into the new year, as he announced on Tuesday that a live album titled Deforming Lobes is scheduled to arrive on March 29th via Drag City.

The forthcoming live album will feature recordings captured during Segall’s three-show run alongside The Freedom Band at Los Angeles Teragram Ballroom on January 26th-28th of last year. The album will consist of eight live tracks including “Warm Hands” from his 2017 self-titled LP, and a pair of songs which originally appeared on 2016’s Emotional Mugger including “Squealer” and “Breakfast Eggs”. The album was mixed by acclaimed rock recording engineer and professional poker player extraordinaireSteve Albini.

The report of the forthcoming album on Tuesday also went on to reveal that Segall will debut a new single titled, “Just Give Up”, during an episode of Comedy Central’s original series, Corporate, on Tuesday night at 10:30 P.M. EST. In addition to writing the theme song for the network television show, Segall also provided some original music to be performed by a fictional band named Honeyscratch in Tuesday night’s episode.

Segall’s final album release of 2018, which consisted entirely of covers, included a heavier, distortion-friendly rendition of the Grateful Dead‘s “St. Stephen”. Fans can tune into the audio-only video below to hear Segall’s take on the primal Dead anthem.
