Umphrey’s McGee continued a long-standing New Year’s Eve tradition by teaming with the Mad Dog & His Filthy Little Secret Horns for portions of their recent three-set show at The Tabernacle in Atlanta. The sextet and the horn section ended the second set of the night with a cover of “It’s About That Time” by Miles Davis. UM shared professionally-shot video of the tune, which can be viewed below.

Miles Davis wrote “It’s About That Time” for inclusion on his famed 1969 album In A Silent Way. The song fuses rock and jazz in a way that suits Umphrey’s McGee well. The six-piece starting covering “It’s About That Time” in 2000 and played it often through 2004. At that point, UM versions of the tune have been much less frequent. So, many fans were thrilled when Umphrey’s dusted off “It’s About That Time” for the first time in 152 shows on December 31. The horn section of Michael “Mad Dog” Mavridoglou on trumpet, Jeff Coffin on saxophone, Chris Ott on trombone and Josh Quinlan on saxophone made it all the more special.
