The fourth-annual Brooklyn Comes Alive made its return to Brooklyn’s beloved Williamsburg neighborhood on September 29th, 2018 for an all-day music marathon at Brooklyn BowlMusic Hall of Williamsburg and Rough Trade. Inspired by the vibrant musical communities of Brooklyn and New Orleans, Brooklyn Comes Alive once again brought together more than 50 artists, allowing them to carry out passion projects, play with their musical heroes and collaborate in never-before-seen formations for one jam-packed day in Williamsburg. The lineup featured an impressive mix of musicians from bands such as LettuceThe Disco BiscuitsJoe Russo’s Almost DeadSnarky PuppyPretty Lights Live BandTurkuazThe MetersThe MotetDopapodThe Nth Power and more.

We’ve got an entire cloud worth of content to share from the glorious day of musical fireworks, and today, we’re taking it back to the “Purple Party: A Tribute To Prince.”

After an instant-classic, sold-out late-night performance in New Orleans during this year’s Jazz Fest, the Purple Party resurrected at the Brooklyn Bowl for another late-night, packed-to-capacity crowd at Brooklyn Comes Alive. The band lineup was an embarrassment of riches, with an all-star cast of funk masters across the board. The sensational former Prince bassist MonoNeon teamed up with Robert “Sput” Searight and Nate Werth (Snarky Puppy, Ghost Note), Steve Swatkins (Allen Stone), Ryan Jalbert and Lyle Divinsky (The Motet), Shira Elias and Sammi Garett (Turkuaz), Chris Bullock and Mike “Maz” Maher (Snarky Puppy), Will Trask (Great American Taxi), and Megan Letts (Mama Magnolia), with Casey Russell (the Magic Beans) playing keys and serving as musical director.

The setlist illuminated the vast catalog of The Purple One, mixing together top hits and deep cuts from his 40+ year career. Below, you can watch multi-camera footage of this incredible crew performing “D.M.S.R.” from Prince’s 1982 album, 1999.
