Queen and singer Adam Lambert treated television audiences to a pair of hits from the famous rock band’s catalog to open up the Academy Awards on Sunday night. Now, fans can prepare themselves for even more from the famous rock band and their new frontman, as ABC announced on Monday that a two-hour documentary on Queen and Adam Lambert will debut on the network on Monday, April 29th.
The forthcoming film, titled The Show Must Go On, will look to chronicle the journey of Queen following Freddie Mercury‘s death in 1991 leading up to their first performance of “We Will Rock You” with Lambert on vocals when he was still a contestant on American Idol in 2009. The rock documentary will reportedly feature rare concert footage and exclusive portraits of the band offstage in addition to new interviews with Lambert (and his parents) and Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor. Former American Idol judge Simon Cowell, Bohemian Rhapsody star and “Best Actor” Oscar winner Rami Malek, and Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins will also be featured in new, exclusive interviews throughout the film.

In the decade since their first performance together (they officially became known as Queen + Adam Lambert in 2012) the legendary band and their youthful singer have performed almost 200 sold-out shows in arenas and stadiums across the world, bringing the band’s iconic catalog to both longtime fans and a new generation of listeners. The film’s arrival in late April will also help to boost the group’s already sold-out 2019 summer tour, which is scheduled to begin on July 10th in Vancouver, BC.
The recent hit biopic on the band, Bohemian Rhapsody, ended up taking home an impressive four wins at Sunday’s Academy Awards, including “Best Actor,” “Best Film Editing,” “Best Sound Editing,” and “Best Sound Mixing”.
