The Americana Music Association honored the great John Prine with an Americana Pre-Grammy Salute at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday night. John Prine–nominated for three Grammy awards, including Best Americana Album for “The Tree of Forgiveness,” Best American Roots Song for “Knocking on Your Screen Door” and “Summer’s End”–watched from the balcony as musicians from all genres came together to celebrate his music, then eventually closed the show with versions of his own “Late John Garfield Blues” and “Summer’s End”.

The evening’s lineup impressively featured performances by Bob Weir, Margo Price, members of the Punch Brothers, Boz Scaggs, Milk Carton Kids, John Paul White, Bettye Lavette, and more during the 3+ hour concert.

Notably, Mr. Bob Weir and Ms. Margo Price teamed up for a pair of John Prine tunes, including “Great Rain” from 1991’s The Missing Years and “Angel From Montgomery” from his debut album. The two had only collaborated once previously at Wolf Bros‘ tour stop in Nashville last year, when they covered Janis Joplin’s “Me & Bobby McGee”.
