On Friday night, Kalamazoo, MI-native quintet Greensky Bluegrass played their first of two tour-closing shows in the Motor City. To mark their homecoming, Greensky crafted a show that gave a nod to the evening’s locale, spelling out “Detroit, Michigan” with the first letter in each song of their setlist.
The “Detroit” set one hit the road running with a lengthy rendition of “Don’t Lie” which, after more than 17 minutes, dissolved into a cover of the Grateful Dead‘s “Eyes of the World”. Next came Tuesday Letter (2006) track “Tied Down”, followed by “Run or Die”, “Old Barns”, “I’d Probably Kill You”, and a set-closing “Train Junkie”.
Greensky’s “Michigan” second set began with “Miss September”, followed by a two-song All For Money punch of “It’s Not Mine Anymore” and “Courage For The Road”. “Hold On” came next, followed by “Indian Trail” and a cover of Paul Simon‘s “Gumboots”.

After some onstage banter about the new record and the subsequent tour, Greensky Bluegrass started into the new album’s title track, “All For Money”, before closing out their set—and their setlist acrostic—with “No Idea”. Finally, with their spelling exercise completed, the band returned for an encore performance of the hymnal “Will The Circle Be Unbroken?” followed by a quick reprise of the show-opening “Don’t Lie” to bring the memorable performance to a close.
