moe. kicked off their winter tour last night with a letter to the President. For their first of two nights at the State Theater in Portland, ME, the Buffalo rockers spelled out “Trump Is A Lying Ass” in their setlist.
Without explicitly pointing out the setlist shenanigans, moe. drove the point home with the debut of a brand new song, “Screaming & Kicking”, penned by guitarist Al Schnier. After a quick encore break, Al stepped to the microphone for the “al.nouncements” portion of the evening to congratulate a newly engaged couple and several birthdays. He then introduced the new song with a short speech, saying:
I don’t want to tell you what to do, however, I feel… If nothing else, I would encourage you to pay attention. Okay? I think that we deserve better, okay, and that’s all I’m going to say about that. Politics aside, beliefs aside, I think that we deserve better. And now it’s up to us, that’s the whole way this thing was built, so, just pay attention. It’s our job. It’s by the people, by the people … it’s our fucking job. Every now and then people tell me to shut and play my guitar, but that’s not my job because I’m one of you too. This is my job, this is what we do. So this is for all of us.
