Phish Shares ‘I Always Wanted It This Way’ Into ‘Death Don’t Hurt Very Long’ From Mexico: Pro-Shot Video

Phish recently concluded the third installment of their Phish Riviera Maya destination event at Barceló Maya in Riviera Maya, Mexico. The band uploaded a high-definition video featuring a highlight from the second set of the first night to their YouTube channel.

Thursday’s show had three huge bustouts and plenty of jamming. One of the best jams of the night came within keyboardist Page McConnell‘s “I Always Wanted It This Way.” The synth-heavy song has always seemed like the perfect springboard for improvisation, yet the first eight versions didn’t stray from form. Phish finally took “IAWITW” deep in Mexico for a transcendent 20-minute version that somehow weaved its way into the Kasvot Växt track “Death Don’t Hurt Very Long.” This “I Always Wanted It This Way” contained multiple movements including a blissful exploration and a euphoric, crowd-pleasing peak.
