Stephen Malkmus Shares ‘Rushing The Acid Frat’ Video & Adds Tour Dates

Stephen Malkmus shared the official video for “Rushing The Acid Frat,” a song on his upcoming solo album Groove Denied. Matador Records is set to release the record on March 15.

Malkmus’ first solo album without his backing band The Jicks since 2001, the 10-track Groove Denied includes elements of electronic dance music. The sound of the album was inspired in part by Malkmus’ time living in Berlin and experiences at the German city’s clubs. A “specific student fraternity (think less beer-pong-bros, more ‘Grateful Dead druggy tie-dye’ vibe) at [Malkmus’] University of Virginia alma mater” inspired the title of “Rushing The Acid Frat.”

Malkmus added a trio of solo shows to his upcoming tour schedule. He’ll perform in New York City on April 30 at 92Y and on May 2 at The Kitchen. Malkmus will also appear on May 8 at Fullerton Hall at the Art Institute of Chicago.
