Episode 31 of The JamBase Podcast is now available to download and stream. The latest installment features an interview with guitarist Cory Wong, as well as “The Rundown” of some of the recent noteworthy news items covered since the last episode.

JamBase’s Andy Kahn met up with Cory Wong for a “Musical Mentors” chat in the guitarist’s hometown of Minneapolis. The two discuss Wong’s childhood in the Twin Cities and how his dad led him to his first Fender Stratocaster guitar. Wong shares stories of some of the teachers and schools that were integral to his early development. Cory also talks about his experiences playing with the legendary Minneapolis funk group Dr. Mambo’s Combo featuring Prince collaborator Michael Bland and how that led to Wong meeting and joining Vulfpeck. The chat concludes with Wong explaining his recent interactions with jazz saxophonist Dave Koz.

Episode 31 begins with JamBase’s Scott Bernstein joined by regular contributor Jeffrey Greenblatt on “The Rundown.” Jeff’s debut on The JamBase Podcast starts with his and Scotty review of this year’s Tibet House Benefit Concert that they recently attended at New York City’s Carnegie Hall. They then cover the unfortunate passing of Tedeschi Trucks Band multi-instrumentalist Kofi Burbridge, who tragically died last week at the age of 57 following heart problems. “The Rundown” wraps with a recap of the horrific allegations of abusive behavior lodged against singer-songwriter Ryan Adams by several women including his ex-wife Mandy Moore and musician Phoebe Bridgers.
