Vermont jam quartet Twiddle is currently in the middle of an extensive winter tour. The band shared official audio from their tour opener in Arkansas, recorded a Daytrotter session and fit an Umphrey’s McGee cover into their Monday night show in Kansas City.
Twiddle focused on new material for their Daytrotter session. Guitarist Mihali Savoulidis, drummer Brook Jordan, keyboardist Ryan Dempsey and bassist Zdenek Gubb performed the recently debuted originals “River Drift” and “Burden’s Blooming” for Daytrotter with old favorite “Lost In The Cold” in between. Both “River Drift” and “Burden’s Blooming” were staples of Mihali’s solo sets before they were brought to the full band last fall. Watch Twiddle’s Daytrotter set:
This past Monday, Twiddle played recordBar in Kansas City. Monday’s second set featured a rare cover of “Glory” by Umphrey’s McGee. Twiddle had only played the instrumental 20 times prior dating back to 2012 as per Phantasy Tour. Watch video of “Glory” captured by Brian Fitzpatrick:
Mihali, Zdenek, Ryan and Brook kicked off winter tour at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, Arkansas on January 30. Twiddle opened with a version of “Apples” featuring a cover of Lipps Inc.’s “Funkytown” within. “River Drift” was then followed by the classic “Invisible Ink” which bled into the quartet’s fourth cover of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” since 2014. The latter was played at the same pace as “Invisible Ink.” Finally, Twiddle honored Arkansas with “Milk” (the state’s official beverage) and “The Fantastic Tale Of Ricky Snickle” (Snickle was born in Little Rock).
Twiddle began the second set in Arkansas with a 30+ minute “Gatsby The Great” into “Polluted Beauty” into “Gatsby The Great” sequence. With the honeybee the state insect of Arkansas, the four-piece then connected “Honeyburste” and “Beehop.” The latter led into a “Ganja Medley” featuring portions of Sublime’s “Pawn Shop,” Peter Tosh’s “Legalize It” and Musical Youth’s “Pass The Dutchie.” Twiddle went on to close the frame with a Jordan-sung “Second Wind” that gave way to a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Eyes Of The World” that contained a bass solo from Gubb. For the encore, Twiddle went with their reggae-tinged rendition of Tears For Fears’ “Mad World.” Listen to the official recording below or via nugs.net:
