As reported, the Tedeschi Trucks Band fit a debut cover of The Allman Brothers Band classic “Dreams” into their recent Chicago Theatre finale on January 26. Fan-shot video of nearly the entire version of “Dreams” surfaced on YouTube giving the group’s followers a chance to watch how their take on the song went down.

Susan Tedeschi handled lead vocals on the tune Gregg Allman penned for inclusion on The Allman Brothers Band’s self-titled 1969 debut studio album. “Dreams” was among a batch of songs Gregg wrote in Los Angeles before heading back to Georgia at his brother Duane’s insistence to join a new project he was putting together. When the group got together with Gregg for the first time, it was “Dreams” that helped win over the rest of the group. “I showed them ‘Dreams,’ and let me tell you, they joined right in. We learned that song the way you hear it today, and I was in, brother,” wrote Allman in his 2012 memoir My Cross To Bear.

Derek Trucks had plenty of experience performing “Dreams” as a member of The Allman Brothers Band from 1999 through their 2014 retirement. As such, it comes as no surprise he unleashed a fiery solo in Chicago. The TTB horns added a nice touch to the 12-piece’s version of the tune. Watch fan-shot video of “Dreams” captured by Norm Smyth:
