Billy Strings & Marcus King Cover “Summertime” At Carter Vintage Guitars In Nashville [Watch]

102

Recently, guitarists Billy Strings and Marcus King stopped by Nashville, TN’s Carter Vintage Guitars to record a cover of “Summertime”, originally written in 1935 for the American opera, Porgy and Bess. The duo are no strangers to each other, as they teamed up last May for their first-time-ever “Kings & Strings” collaboration at the Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival in Martinsville, VA.

Billy Strings took the vocal lead on “Summertime”, a tune that has been covered by the likes of Janis Joplin, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke and more. For the special Nashville recording session, King played a 1954 Fender Telecaster electric, with Strings on a 1936 Martin 000-28 acoustic. The duo both got a chance to trade off soulful solos, surrounded by an abundance of classic guitars.
