On Wednesday, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros continued their early-2019 tour with a performance at Milwaukee, WI’s Riverside Theater.
The first set kicked off with Weir’s “Hell In A Bucket”, as the guitarist and frontman emphatically belted out his vocal lead backed by drummer Jay Lane and bassist Don Was. The trio moved forward with a tender take on “Loser” before kicking the tempo up with a twangy “Mama Tried”. Bob Weir and Wolf Bros continued with “Gonesville” off of Weir’s 2016 solo release, Blue Mountain, the Weir/Rob Wasserman-penned “The Winners”, and a triumphant set-closing segue with “Weather Report Suite” into “Let It Grow”.

When the Wolf Bros returned to the stage for their second set, Weir, Lane, and Was dove into a cover of Little Feat‘s “Easy To Slip”, which was followed up by a full-throttle take on “Ashes & Glass”, sandwiched around “Don’t Let Go”. Weir continued with the lead on an exploratory “Dark Star” which they followed with a high-energy “Passenger” before ultimately steering the ship back into “Dark Star” territory to complete the psychedelic Grateful Dead classic. The trio smoothly transitioned out of “Dark Star” into a cover of Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” before closing the set out with “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider”. The trio returned for a lone encore of “Ripple”, providing one last chance for the attentive Milwaukee crowd to sing along.
