Bob Weir & Wolf Bros Bring Tour To Cincinnati: Full Show Audio

143

Bob Weir and Wolf Bros continued their Winter Tour on Wednesday at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati. The three-piece act focused on their folkie side for the majority of their opening set, while their second frame featured a healthy dose of segue-filled improvisation.

Weir started the night on acoustic guitar opening things up with “Friend Of The Devil” and “The Winners,” a song based on a poem by Rudyard Kipling and a longtime RatDog setlist staple. Bobby was in full cowboy mode next, looking to “Lay My Lily Down” from his solo release Blue Mountain and the John Phillips-penned “Me & My Uncle.” Weir then strapped on an electric guitar as he offered his slowed-down, quirky interpretation of “Loose Lucy.” “Eternity,” which Weir revived last year for the first time since 2002 came ahead of a set-closing “Ashes & Glass” that found the trio dropping “Don’t Let Go” in its midst.

Weir along with bassist Don Was and drummer Jay Lane got their second set off the ground with an extended seamless run. The three-piece looked to Grateful Dead classics “Playing In The Band” and “The Music Never Stopped” to start things off. Last night’s “Playin’” featured a healthy dose of knotty, jazz-infused improvisation, while “The Music Never Stopped” leaned in on a straight-ahead gallop. The bluesy “Easy Answers” brought the impressive opening stretch to a close.

The traditional pairing of “Lost Sailor” and “Saint Of Circumstance” kicked off the back half of the frame. The threesome showed off their psychedelic chops on The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows” that featured a noteworthy bit of extended acid-drenched jamming. A short, but punchy “I Need A Miracle” led into a heartfelt “Wharf Rat.” A rocking take on the folk standard “Going Down The Road Feelin’ Bad” brought the second stanza to an end. Bob Weir & Wolf Bros offered up “Touch Of Grey” as their lone encore in The Queen City.
