Dead & Company posted pro-shot video of their performance of “Loser” during their 2017 Fall Tour stop in Atlanta. The footage comes from the first set at the Philips Arena on November 29, 2017.

Gary Lambert, the co-host of Tales From The Golden Road on SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead Channel shared his notes regarding this version of the Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter classic:

Sometimes a song’s title speaks volumes all by itself, as “Loser” effectively demonstrates. In this case, that one word clues us in that the boast of the song’s gambling narrator that he’s “got no chance of losing this time” is nothing but delusional false bravado. “Loser” received its first live performance by the Grateful Dead on February 18, 1971 – the opening night of a legendary six-show run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York, during which the band premiered seven new songs that would all become mainstays in the repertoire. It was first released in recorded form on Jerry Garcia’s self-titled solo debut the following year.

Guitarist Bob Weir sang lead on “Loser” while backed by his Grateful Dead band mates, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart on drums, along with guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The band begins their 2019 Summer Tour on May 31 in Mountain View, California. Watch their performance of “Loser” from Atlanta in 2017 below:
