Gary Clark Jr. was the featured performer for the final day of Tampa, Florida’s Gasparilla Music Festival on Sunday, where he was joined by fellow guitarist Lukas Nelson during his headlining set.
The 2019 installment of the winter music festival featured performances throughout the weekend from artists including The Avett Brothers, The Infamous Stringdusters, New Orleans Suspects, White Denim, and Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real, just to name a few. Lukas Nelson happened to still be nearby during Gary Clark Jr.’s performance, as Nelson and his band delivered the pre-headlining set prior to Clark at the event on Sunday. Clark took advantage of the guitarist’s presence at the festival by inviting Nelson to join his band for a cover of “3 O’Clock Blues”.

The two hat-wearing guitarists greeted each other with a casual fistbump as Nelson made his way to the stage. The band didn’t waste much time before starting into the older blues tune, which was initially penned by Lowell Fulson and went on to appear on B.B. King‘s 1956 debut album. Clark took the first solo during the song’s instrumental intro, with Nelson chiming in with his own lead lines weaved into the mix throughout the verses. Nelson stepped up to take his first real solo about halfway through the performance. Fans can watch the video below to relive Sunday’s fantastic sit-in during Clark’s set.

Clark will continue to tour throughout the spring months in ongoing support of his latest studio album, This Land, which arrived just recently on February 22nd via Warner Bros. Records. Clark’s next performance is scheduled for Wednesday night (March 13th) at Gillioz Theatre in Springfield, MO.
