Mike Gordon Closes March Tour & 4-Night Stand In Cambridge

137

Bassist Mike Gordon ended a three-week tour with the fourth of four shows at The Sinclair in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Sunday night. Gordon, guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer John Kimock, keyboardist Robert Walter and percussionist Craig Myers played a number of songs they hadn’t performed over the initial three nights of his first-ever four-night stand just one day after Trey Anastasio sat-in for much of Saturday’s show. All told, the group treated fans to 50 unique songs in Cambridge.

OGOGO cut “Pendulum” kicked off the evening along with Murawski’s “Put Down The Phone.” Next up was the recently debuted cover of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers” and just the second “The Grid” since the end of 2016. A bust out followed as the quintet dusted off John Kimock’s “Mother’s Song” for the first time since 2016. Sunday’s opening stanza concluded with three songs originally debuted by Phish: “Spock’s Brain,” “Infinite” and “Say Something.”

Another oldie was busted out to start the second set as Gordon led his band through “Only A Dream,” which Phish released on the 2009 outtake collection Party Time and was last performed by Mike’s group on September 22, 2017. The final set of Mike’s tour was heavy on material from OGOGO including “Steps,” “Marissa” and “Go Away.” An interesting sequence was found in the middle of the closing stanza in which the quintet fit a cover of Olivia Holt’s “Thin Air” within “Yarmouth Road.” For the encore, the band said farewell with the recently debuted “I Am Random” and “Gimme Some Lovin’.”

Mike & Co. added 12 songs to their repertoire over the course of the tour. The five-piece also welcomed a few guests including Trey Anastasio. Here’s full show audio of Saturday’s show featuring special guest Trey Anastasio taped by Brian V. and shared by Jam.Buzz:
