Mike Gordon Debuts New Originals, Led Zeppelin Cover At Solo Tour Opener In Atlanta [Video/Audio]

169

On Friday night, Mike Gordon kicked off his March 2019 solo tour with a performance at Atlanta, GA’s Variety Playhouse. The Phish bassist and his talented solo band had plenty of surprises in store for their tour-opening show including the debuts of a pair of new songs, the solo debut of “Infinite” (first introduced with Phish last summer), and more.

After getting started with “Steps” and “Stealing Jamaica”, Gordon and his band—comprised of guitarist Scott Murawski, keyboardist/organist Robert Walter, drummer John Kimock, and percussionist Craig Myers—moved into the first new original of the night, “Acid Man”. “Mind Mischief” followed before moving smoothly into a cover of Talking Heads‘ “Cities”.

Next up was Gordon-penned tune “Infinite”, making its first appearance at a Mike Gordon solo show after popping up twice at Phish shows in 2018. The band rounded out their first set with “Tiny Little World” and “Victim 3D”.

Gordon and company kicked off their second set with “Let’s Go”, another Mike tune that got its start with Phish before making the jump to his solo shows. “Peel”, “Marissa”, and “Jumping” followed before the band broke out another pair of debuts: new original “Sughn Never Sets” and a cover of Led Zeppelin‘s “D’yer Ma’ker”. “Say Something” closed out the set before Gordon and the band returned to the stage for an encore performance of “How Many People Are You”.
