On Tuesday, Mr. Talkbox shared a new video of his extra-funky cover of Vulfpeck‘s “Darwin Derby” from their recently released album, Hill Climber. Using seven layered videos, the talkbox keyboard master took Vulfpeck’s spunky tune and turned it into a down-and-dirty funk gem. Vulfpeck was quick to notice, excitedly sharing Mr. Talkbox’s cover with their own fans with the caption, “ahhhhhh Mr. Talkbox does it AGAIN.” The Mr. Talkbox video followed Vulfpeck’s recent release of a “Darwin Derby” tutorial video breaking down the song for listeners.
However, as per usual with Vulfpeck storylines, this one gets funkier: Later that same evening, funk bassist extraordinaire MonoNeon (Prince, Ghost-Note) took Mr. Talkbox’s Vulfpeck cover one step farther, adding an infectious bass line to the already incredible rendition. This is far from the first time that MonoNeon has added his bass stylings to unexpected videos for the Internet’s enjoyment. In the past, he’s lent instrumental scores to videos of a Charlie rant from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, a Michael Rapaport roast of white supremacists, and more. Whatever video MonoNeon gets his hands on, you can be sure he’ll make it even better.

MonoNeon is currently touring the country as the bassist for Ghost-Note. He’s also scheduled to appear in a number of special performances in the coming months including gigs with Purple Party: A Tribute to Prince and Eric Krasno & Friends at the inaugural The Big Melt in Denver on Saturday, April 13th (grab your tickets here). He’ll also perform with Purple Party at their upcoming New Orleans late-night during Jazz Fest on Sunday, May 5th (technically early morning May 6th) and with Ghost-Note at their very special guest-filled Swagism live show in New Orleans on Saturday, May 4th.
Vulfpeck, meanwhile, is preparing for a handful of high-profile shows later this year including a headlining Red Rocks performance on May 9th, a slot at LOCKN‘ on August 24th, and their debut at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden on September 28th.
