The Rolling Stones were expected to make their New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival debut on Thursday, May 2 until Mick Jagger’s medical issues led the legendary band to postpone their 2019 North American tour. Jazz Fest organizers issued a statement regarding The Rolling Stones’ shocking news.

“Due to the postponement of the Rolling Stones No Filter tour, the band will not appear at this year’s Jazz Festival,” starts the note. “Details about the Festival’s May 2 music lineup will be announced as soon as they are finalized.” Organizers went on to mention “information regarding May 2 ticket refunds and second weekend VIP package adjustments is forthcoming.” The note concluded with, “We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes and thank you for your patience.

The Rolling Stones expect to announce rescheduled dates shortly according to this morning’s announcement, though the Jazz Fest appearance won’t happen. “Mick Jagger has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time as he needs medical treatment,” reads a note from the band’s publicist about the reason for the postponement. “The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”

Jazz Fest celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019 and were welcoming The Stones on a “limited capacity day” at the Fairgrounds. While single-day tickets for May 2 had the highest price tag in the history of the event, they sold out shortly after going on sale in January. The Advocate reported the capacity for the 2nd would be limited to 47,000 as compared to the typical average of 65,000 who attend each day. Dumpstaphunk, Tom Jones, Ziggy Marley, Mavis Staples, Eric Lindell and Big Sam’s Funky Nation are among the acts scheduled to play May 2 at the New New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. As for now, the festival’s schedule is clear after 5 p.m. on May 2 leaving a gaping hole. Stay tuned for more information from Jazz Fest organizers.
