The Avett Brothers Offer Bust Out & Rarities At New Orleans Finale

154

The Avett Brothers closed out a two-night stand at The Fillmore New Orleans on Saturday. The North Carolina-based band dug into their catalog delivering a number of deep cut along with dusting off the rarity “Jenny And The Summer Day” for the first time in nearly seven years.

The Avett Brothers got their night in The Big Easy going with “Trouble Letting Go” the second of three singles that they’ve shared in recent months. Seth and Scott Avett & Co. would go on to deliver 25-song main set that included fan-favorites like “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise,” “Ain’t No Man,” “I Wish I Was,” “Live and Die” and “True Sadness.” The Americana band would also dig deep through the night starting three songs in with “Gimmeakiss” from Four Thieves Gone, which made its way into their setlist for just the 12th time in three years.

The folk act continued to reach into their back catalog for lesser played tunes delivering “November Blue” from their 2002 LP Country Was, while “The Greatest Sum” was served up for the 14th time since 2009. The biggest surprise of the evening came around the midway point of the set as they unearthed “Jenny And The Summer Day.” The true rarity from their debut album had been sitting untouched since 2012 and played live for just the 11th time ever. “Fisher Road To Hollywood,” from their most recent studio album True Sadness, “Denouncing November Blue” and “The Clearness Is Gone,” which was revived in 2018, five years after its debut, rounded out the deep catalog cuts in New Orleans.
