Umphrey’s McGee Busts Out Led Zepplin Song & Debuts Tyler Childers Cover In Nashville

149

Umphrey’s McGee closed out a two-night run at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Saturday. The prog-jam rockers unearthed a pair of songs, which included the first take on Led Zeppelin’s “Ten Years Gone” in 15+ years along with debuting a take on Tyler Childers’ “Whitehouse Road.”

The six-piece act began their night with a lengthy, segue-filled stretch that got off the ground with “October Rain.” An unfinished take on the Mantis semi-rarity “Spires” worked its way into “Half Delayed” with “Day Nurse” closing out the run. Guitarists Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger went acoustic next. First up was “Uncle Wally,” which had sat untouched since January 13, 2018. “The Pequod” followed, which was delivered for just the fifth time since 2016, with the 25th ever take on “The Weight Around” putting a cap on the spread of lesser played tunes.

Setlist staples “The Crooked One” and “2×2” came ahead of the biggest surprise of the night as Umphrey’s dusted off Led Zeppelin’s “Ten Years Gone.” The Physical Graffiti track had been sitting on the shelf since September 11, 2003 – a span of 1,768 shows.

The sextet would dig in a trio of longtime workhorses to open up the second stanza delivering takes on “Divisions,” “Mulche’s Odyssey” and “Thin Air.” Bayliss would once again strap on an acoustic guitar as Umphrey’s offered up their debut of Childers’ “Whitehouse Road” from the singer-songwriter’s 2017 LP Purgatory. “Draconian” would close out the set as the Chicago-based band turned to “Ringo” to bring their two-nighter at the famed venue to an end.
