Better Oblivion Community Center Covers Daniel Johnston In Austin

Better Oblivion Community Center covered Austin-native Daniel Johnston’s “Devil Town” last night during their show at Stubb’s. The band featuring Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers is touring in support of their recently issued, surprise debut album.

Oberst recorded a cover of “Devil Town” for the 2004 tribute album The Late Great Daniel Johnston: Discovered Covered. Johnston, who retired from touring in 2017, released “Devil Town” in 1990 on his album 1990.

Tuesday’s BOCC show in Austin featured several songs from their self-titled debut record, The Replacements’ “Can’t Hardly Wait,” a few of Bridgers’ solo originals and Bright Eyes cuts as well. Watch a clip of “Devil Town” shared by msmagnanimous below:
