Bruce Hornsby played a solo piano rendition of “The Way It Is” for The Howard Stern Show during a visit to SiriusXM’s New York City headquarters on September 28, 2006. Video containing both the introduction and song have been shared on the program’s YouTube channel.

Hornsby appeared on the Stern Show to support his new box set at the time, Intersections 1985 – 2005. Bruce spent time talking to Howard Stern about prank calling Jerry Garcia, his influences and the box set. Stern asked the legendary keyboardist to perform “The Way It Is” and introduced the song. Howard asked Bruce to discuss how he wrote the tune and Hornsby explained its genesis and then delivered a gorgeous version of the title track from Bruce Hornsby & The Range’s debut album. The Howard Stern Show recently launched a series of musical performances entitled “Howard Stern’s Saturday Soundtracks.” Hornsby returns to the road later this month in support of his just-released Absolute Zero studio album.
