The soulful funk outfit Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles had an exciting past year worth celebrating, and will continue to harness that momentum as 2019 unfolds.

The seven-piece ensemble, including church-reared Hammond organ virtuoso Cory HenryNicholas Semrad (synthesizer), Adam Agati (guitar), Taron Locket (drums), Sharay Reed (bass), Denise Stoudmire (vocals), and Tiffany Stevenson (vocals) are no strangers to the road, having toured together throughout the U.S. and internationally, hitting festivals such as Indy Jazz FestivalSF JazzMontreux Jazz FestivalOkeechobeeElectric ForestNorth Sea JazzLove Supreme FestivalNewport Jazz Festival, and more.

In June 2018, Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles released their first full-length EP Art Of LoveRecorded in Henry’s hometown of Brooklyn, NY, Art Of Love was tracked live to capture the incomparable energy of The Funk Apostles’ live shows and to channel the warm analog vibes of the 1970s. Henry’s unparalleled artistic design shines brightly on Art Of Love, as the musical Jedi both composed and produced the album’s intricate arrangements. That’s not to say that the album is lacking a live aesthetic, as The Funk Apostles worked with minimal rehearsal and several tracks are first-take recordings.

Recently, Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles stopped by JammJam in Los Angeles, CA for an exclusive underground gathering. During their special performance, Cory Henry and his ensemble invited up Southern California-bred gospel multi-instrumentalist B.Slade to honor The Prince of Soul himself, Marvin Gaye. Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles’ cover of “Inner City Blues” is not only an incredible musical performance, but if you look closely in the audience, there are a number of today’s top musicians in the business, including Daru Jones (Jack White), Francesca Simone (Beyonce), Mike Moore (Ty Dolla $ign/Jason Derulo), Nisan Stewart (Jamie Foxx), and Lynette Williams (Childish Gambino) to name a few.
