Electric Beethoven Shares ‘The Ninth’ Single

141

A new Reed Mathis and Electric Beethoven single entitled “The Ninth” has been released. The band’s latest track for Color Red is an interpretation of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Ode To Joy.”

Mathis plays bass and keyboards on the track, which also features keyboardist Todd Stoops, guitarist Clay Welch and drummer Josh Raymer. Reed produced “The Ninth” at Color Red Studios in Denver after working out the arrangement in Stoops’ basement. The release of “The Ninth” follows previously shared singles “The Fifth” and “For Elise.”

Here’s more on Electric Beethoven’s funky version of “Ode To Joy”:

While fleshing out the arrangement in Todd Stoops’ basement, Reed Mathis observed that Beethoven’s iconic ninth symphony actually has three melodies that occur simultaneously. Stoops suggested that they should introduce the lesser known motifs first and then drop the famous “Ode to Joy” melody last with the other two melodies steeping beneath it. That’s the “a-ha” moment where the audience unites—whether it’s the familiarity of playing the melody in grade school, or nostalgia for a summer concert series or cinematic work, the vast majority of the world unities in the solidarity of “Ode to Joy” awakening memories.
