Engineer/producer/mixer Tucker Martine’s Flora Recording and Playback studio in Portland was recently burglarized, with thieves stealing over $70,000 in recording equipment from the soon-to-open facility. Bassist Nate Query of The Decemberists – who have worked extensively with Martine – started a GoFundMe campaign to help Martine and his wife Laura Veirs, recover from the robbery.

Query posted the following on the GoFundMe page:

Last month, my friend Tucker Martine’s new recording studio was broken into and more than $70,000 worth of microphones, amps, and guitars were stolen. Tucker spent years collecting these unique pieces of equipment, and the theft comes just as he was opening the newest version of Flora Recording in a building Tucker and his wife, singer-songwriter, have gone deeply into debt to finish building out. It’s a huge setback just as this studio was getting off the ground. Currently the insurance company is trying to use a loophole to avoid helping with the loss. Tucker is trying everything possible to get them to honor his claim but the outcome is uncertain and will take a long time to unfold.

Martine’s studio work began in the mid-1990s in Seattle and has grown to include an impressive and diverse roster of collaborators. His fifth facility, Flora Recording was close to completion of a nearly yearlong construction. This week’s edition of Saturday Stream collects tracks that Martine engineered, produced and/or mixed over the past 25+ years.

The set features several songs recorded by The Decemberists and Veirs. There are also tracks by My Morning Jacket, Jim James, Mavis Staples, Sufjan Stevens, Bill Frisell, The Avett Brothers, First Aid Kit, Modest Mouse, M. Ward, Neko Case, Rosanne Cash, Punch Brothers, The Jayhawks, Wild Flag, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down and more. Also featured are songs from albums released this year by William Tyler, Hand Habits and Stephen Malkmus. Martine can be heard performing with Wayne Horovitz under the moniker Mylab and with Frisell, drummer Matt Chamberlain and producer Lee Townsend on two Floratone albums.
