Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Shares Pro-Shot Video Of Explosive “Cumberland Blues” > “Big River” From New Orleans [Watch]

157

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead has shared a new pro-shot video as part of their semi-regular “RAD Tracks” series. The latest selection comes from the band’s second of two performances at New Orleans, LA’s Mardi Gras World Ballroom on May 5th, 2018, when they weaved in and out of “Cumberland Blues” and “Big River” during the heart of the second set.

Set two saw Joe Russo’s Almost Dead take the blues heritage of New Orleans to heart with tried-and-true tunes like “Foolish Heart”, “New Minglewood Blues”, and Bob Dylan‘s “Tell Me, Momma”. The highlight of the show came next as the band dove into “Cumberland Blues”, marking the first time JRAD took “Cumberland” into deep improvisational territory. Marco Benevento dazzled the sold-out crowd with some electric, jazz piano work, as Dave Dreiwitz ran up and down the neck of his bass across the stage. The quintet raced forward, weaving in and out of “Cumberland” and “Big River”.

For the encore, the band welcomed a special guest, guitarist Nick Bockrath of Cage The Elephant, who played the Fest fairgrounds earlier in the day. Bockrath stuck around for both “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad” and “Franklin’s Tower”.
