Lotus’ Luke Miller Expresses Elation & Gratitude Ahead Of Red Rocks Throwdown

Jamtronica pioneers Lotus had a busy year in 2018, and will continue their momentum with another big year ahead of them. In early December, the band released a brand new album, Frames Per Second, their first studio release since 2016’s Eat the Light. Frames Per Second is a sprawling, all-instrumental 19-track release comprised of a mix of never-before-heard material as well as songs the band had been introducing and road-testing since the release of Eat The Light.

Along with the album itself, Lotus released a studio documentary chronicling the recording of Frames Per Second at Rittenhouse Soundworks in Philadelphia. The documentary showcases Lotus in a pure, raw form performing live in the studio, highlighting the band’s ever-evolving style over the course of their 20-year career.

Lotus has been out on tour throughout the year in support of Frames Per Second, performing multiple-night runs in various cities. The current jaunt will culminate in a headlining blowout at Morrison, CO’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The five-piece band consisting of Mike Greenfield (drums), Jesse Miller (bass, sampler), Luke Miller (guitar, keys), Mike Rempel (guitar), and Chuck Morris (percussion) has tapped an impressive support lineup for their Red Rocks bash including experimental electronic duo Ghostland Observatory, Denver-native electronic producer Jade Cicada, and Colorado’s own jam favorites Magic Beans.

Ahead of the band’s highly-anticipated Red Rocks headlining performance, Luke Miller shared some insight on what fans should expect. On the added element of excitement regarding inroducing the new Frames Per Second material into the band’s live show, Luke explains, “We’ve been working the new songs into the recent shows and figuring out new ways to improvise on them and bring the songs into the live environment. So, the Red Rocks show is kind of the unofficial release party. But the new songs are just a piece of the puzzle. The bulk is still a mix from many of our albums.”

Colorado has always welcomed Lotus with open arms. From legendary Boulder Theater runs, to mind-bending performances at The Mishawaka and their fan-favorite Red Rocks throwdowns, the Centennial State has always been a home away from home for the band. With the 2019 Red Rocks season just getting underway, Luke continues, “Since it’s one of the first shows of the Red Rocks season, I see it as almost a home opener.”

Red Rocks harnesses indescribable energy unlike any live concert venue in the country. Luke has been fortunate enough to grace the beloved stage with his brothers in music many times over the years, and adds, “We’re a bit more comfortable and knowledgeable about putting on a show there, but the energy level with the crowd rising up above you is still unlike anywhere else.”

Prior to Lotus’ Red Rocks Amphitheatre show, the band continues with a performance at Harrisburg, PA’s Club XL on April 18th, followed by a two-night stint in Washington, D.C. (4/19, 4/20), and an intimate show at Denver’s Summit on Friday, April 26th. The quintet will also make summer festival appearances at Chillicothe, IL’s Summer Camp Music Festival; Stephentown, NY’s Disc Jam Music Festival; Patchogue, NY’s Great South Bay Music Festival, and The Peach Music Festival in Scranton, PA.
