Neil Young & Crazy Horse recently assembled at a studio in the Rocky Mountains to record a new album. Young penned a post for his Neil Young Archives site revealing that the album, which consists of 11 new songs ranging from three minutes to 14 minutes, will be released early this fall. The currently untitled LP will be the group’s first since 2012’s Psychedelic Pill.

The current Crazy Horse lineup consists of Young, multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren, bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina. Crazy Horse, Lineup 10 made their live debut one year ago tomorrow on May 1, 2018 in Fresno, California and have since played six more shows. The group’s latest gigs took place on February 3 and 4 in Winnipeg. Young let it slip that Crazy Horse would record 11 new songs earlier this month in response to a question from a fan. Neil went on to pen a post confirming the studio sessions a few days later.

Neil Young’s latest post comes after the band had the album playback following the recording sessions. “We believe we have a great Crazy Horse album, one to stand alongside Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, Rust Never Sleeps, Sleeps With Angels, Psychedelic Pill and all the others,” Young wrote. “Untitled at the moment, our Crazy Horse album with Nils, Ralphie and Billy stands as one of the most diverse albums I have ever made and I can’t wait for you to hear it.” Neil goes on to mention “there will be schedule changes” to his plan to release material from his archives and that “this new album finds its release date in the early Fall of 2019, displacing older re-release projects.”

The 73-year-old musician and longtime Warner Bros. artist specifically mentions, “Whatever label this brand new Crazy Horse album is on, it will be a proud moment for all involved, something we were not sure we would get to do.” Young notes the studio in the Rockies was at 9,200 feet elevation and that the band used their old tube board, mics and equipment. Producer John Hanlon was behind the board. Neil ends his note by telling fans, “Soon you will be hearing it too!” and shares the good news, “We plan to tour in support of this album and hope to see you all there.” He signs off with, “We all hope there will be more.” Us too, Neil.
