New Col. Bruce Hampton Documentary Features Members Of Phish, Widespread Panic & More

195

The life and career of Col. Bruce Hampton, who unexpectedly passed away during his 70th birthday concert at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre in 2017, is set to be explored in a new documentary with the current working title of The Prophet Col. Bruce Hampton: Is It The American Dream?. The film, which is in the pre-production phase, is set to feature appearances from Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes, Dave Matthews, Peter Buck (R.E.M.) along with members of Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler, Tedeschi Trucks Band and actor Billy Bob Thornton.

Here’s a description of what’s in store:

“The documentary’s working title makes reference to Hampton’s signature clairvoyance, which he used to guess fans’ birthdays and arguably even predict his own death. Those prophetic tendencies were just one aspect of “Zambi”, a semi-spiritual philosophy created by Hampton that was is as difficult to describe as the man himself. The filmmakers aim to capture this philosophy in the forthcoming documentary.”

The film is being produced by Adam Moyer, Aerolite Films, Tom Lawson (Basically Frightened) and Steve Lopez and is expected to be released in early 2020. A different Col. Bruce documentary, Basically Frightened: The Musical Madness of Colonel Bruce Hampton, came out in 2012.
