Brandon “Taz” Niederauer is currently on Spring break, touring the southeast with his four-piece band. The Florida portion of the tour kicked off on Monday night with a packed-to-capacity show at The Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton, Florida, where the young guitarist welcomed a few surprise special guests in guitarist Eric McFadden (P-Funk) and bassist Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Company).

The fifteen-year-old guitarist immediately caught the crowd’s attention with a trio of originals to open the show–”Revival”, “I Can’t Live”, and “Where I Belong”–before performing “one of the greatest song ever written, ‘Blackbird’.” Following The Beatles cover, Taz turned the notch up to 11 with the first guest of the night in Eric McFadden for an electrifying version of “Manic Depression”. The Jimi Hendrix cover provided the first opportunity for fans to see the impressive network that surrounds young Niederauer and how he truly shines in their company.

The second half of the set sent strong signals of what’s to come with more Taz originals including “Dare”, “Find A Way”, “All I Need”, and “Paralyzed”. The performance continued to showcase the high school songwriters’ skills as well as the tight musicianship he shares with his own band, which features guitarist Mat Godfrey, bassist Matt Fox, and drummer Kendall Lentz.

For the encore, Dead & Company/Allman Brothers Band/Aquarium Rescue Unit bassist Oteil Burbridge surprised the Monday night crowd to help play on a cover of “Yield Not To Temptation”. Of course, the musicians’ great mentor, Col. Bruce Hampton, was smiling down on the stage both literally (in a photo hanging on the wall) and figuratively.

Burbridge and Niederauer go back over half a decade, having met at the inaugural Roots Rock Revival camp that ABB drummer Butch Trucks started in 2012. They will both return to the week-long camp at Full Moon Resort this summer from August 5th through 9th in the heart of the “Forever Wild” Catskill Forest Preserve in upstate New York. Additionally, the 2019 lineup features Luther and Cody Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars, original ABB drummer Jaimoe, jazz pianist John Medeski, JRAD bandmates Marco Benevento and guitarist Scott MetzgerDevon AllmanDuane Betts & Berry Oakley Jr. (The Allman Betts Band), Ashish Vyas Jeff Franca (Thievery Corporation), Grahame Lesh & Elliott Peck (Midnight North), Vaylor Trucks (son of Butch Trucks), NOLA jazz drummer Johnny Vidacovich, and more.
