Oteil Burbridge Guests With Dark Star Orchestra In Pompano Beach: Full Show Audio

Dark Star Orchestra was joined by Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge for a portion of their second set on Saturday night at Pompano Beach Amphitheater in Pompano Beach, Florida. Burbridge emerged during “Space” and stuck around for “Truckin’.”

On Saturday, the Grateful Dead tribute act recreated a show the Dead performed on September 11, 1982 at West Palm Beach Auditorium in West Palm Beach, Florida. The performance DSO emulated took place on GD drummer Mickey Hart’s 39th birthday. Dark Star went without vocalist Lisa Mackey for the Brent-era setlist. After “Drums,” Oteil took the stage with guitarists Jeff Mattson and Rob Eaton, keyboardist Rob Barraco and drummers Dino English and Rob Koritz for a four-minute “Space” excursion. The drummers returned and Dark Star Orchestra lit into “Truckin’.”

Burbridge stuck to bass playing and didn’t sing harmony on the tune. Oteil jammed with the band for a near ten-minute version of the American Beauty classic written by Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Robert Hunter. The bassist made his presence felt throughout by holding down the groove and throwing tasty fills into the mix. Skip Vangelas returned to swap in for Oteil after “Truckin’” and remained on stage for the rest of the night.
