Phil Lesh & Friends Kick Off Two Night Stand At Terrapin Crossroads: Full Show Video

4

Phil Lesh reconvened his long-running “And Friends” project kicking off a two-night run at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California on Friday. For the pair of shows, the former Grateful Dead bass player is recruited moe. guitarist Al Schnier, Luther Dickinson and Cody Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars along with The Terrapin Family Band multi-instrumentalists Jason Crosby and Alex Koford. The sextet utilized a dual percussionist attack with Cody Dickinson on drums and Koford on variety of percussion instruments.

Schnier stepped up to sing lead on the first two songs of the night taking the ensemble through “Beat It On Down The Line” and “Tennessee Jed,” with the latter featuring the moe. guitarist and Luther Dickinson locking in a bluesy jam. Lesh was up next, fronting the act on “Friend Of The Devil.” The ensemble would lock in on an open-ended jam with Luther Dickison and Crosby leading way as it eventually worked its way into Willie Dixon’s “Little Red Rooster.” A mid-tempo version of “Althea” followed with a standout romp through American Beauty chestnut “Operator” coming ahead of a set-closing “Deal.”

Lesh & Co. would look to Anthem Of Sun psychedelic-blues number “Alligator” to get their second frame of the night off the ground. The meat of the stanza saw the collective dig in an exploratory “Dark Star” that melted into “Scarlet Begonias” that had a distinctive reggae-tinge. Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” and a fiery take on traditional Sunday sermon “Samson & Delilah” followed. The pairing of “Going Down The Road Feeling Bad” and “We Bid You Goodnight” brought the set to an end. Phil Lesh & Friends looked to their second Dylan song of the night tapping “Quinn The Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)” as their lone encore.
