Railroad Earth Shares New John Denver Song ‘If You Will Be My Lady’

170

Railroad Earth shared a new single, “If You Will Be My Lady,” featuring lyrics written by John Denver. The track is one of the final recordings made by Railroad Earth with co-founding member Andy Goessling prior to his death last year.

John Denver’s estate provided Railroad Earth with lyrics written by Denver that were found in 2017. Railroad Earth wrote the music to “If You Will Be My Lady” and Denver’s “Through The Night,” which will be released as a 7-inch single entitled Railroad Earth: The John Denver Letters on April 22 to coincide with Earth Day. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Youth Climate Strike.

“There’s such a unique and wonderful opportunity — and responsibility — to finishing someone’s thoughts, while also making them part of your own,” Carey Harmon told American Songwriter. “I think Todd [Sheaffer] has accomplished that. These are not cover songs. They are John’s words and definitely carry his spirit, but they are distinctly interpreted in Todd’s voice, and therefore felt completely natural for the band to gather around … John Denver represented so much to so many people, and it’s very exciting to think how these may be received. He was a man that never fit entirely into a mold, revered by the folk music community, while reaching beyond it in his own way.”
