Report: The Rolling Stones’ Postponed Tour Could Be Rescheduled To Begin As Early As July

Over the weekend, news broke The Rolling Stones have postponed their highly-awaited U.S. tour due to a Mick Jagger health issue.

In a statement on Twitter, Mick apologized profusely to fans looking forward to the tour:

The New York Post reported that Jagger is set to undergo surgery to have a stent placed in his heart. While this valve replacement procedure used to require open heart surgery, it can now be completed with a minimally invasive procedure that results in much shorter recovery times.

According to the band’s original announcement, “Mick [Jagger] has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment. The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.” The band noted that tickets to the upcoming Rolling Stones concerts will be valid for rescheduled dates, which will be announced soon.

Now, according to a report on Monday by Billboard, it appears that the postponed shows will come to fruition sooner rather than later. The report cites sources familiar with the tour in noting that the Stones “should be able to return to the road by July.”

“We’re beginning to look at the rescheduling options and we’re going to try and do this as quickly as we can,” John Meglen, co-CEO of Concerts West, the company promoting the postponed North American tour that was supposed to kick off April 20th in Miami, tells Billboard. “Everyone’s health and happiness comes first.” He also added that the updated tour dates could be announced “in the next couple weeks.”

The report also notes that the 16-date tour stadium tour could be condensed from ten weeks in length to 8 weeks in length in order to get all of the dates in before the start of the NFL season, after which the stadiums will be occupied for the remainder of the year.

This is all promising news for The Rolling Stones. The main casualty of the tour postponement remains New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The band will not be able to perform their scheduled headlining slot at the 50th-anniversary event. The festival is currently working on locking down a replacement.
