The Disco Biscuits‘ keyboardist Aron Magner will issue the first full-length, self-titled album for his SPAGA project on July 19 via his own AM Records imprint. SPAGA are a “mostly acoustic” piano trio that also features Jason Fraticelli on bass and Matt Scarano on drums. The LP’s lead single, “Creed” has been shared by SPAGA.

SPAGA features six original compositions described as, “often impressionistic and dreamlike” in a press release. “When we first began recording, I was having fun exploring songs with no preconceptions of what the music actually was yet or, for that matter, who we were as a trio, and that provided for unexpected and welcoming results,” said Magner.

The keyboardist goes back to his roots in the project by focusing on piano. An additional way he kept to the concept of “roots” was by teaming with local musicians in his hometown of Philadelphia, recruiting friends and his family circle from the area to help with the production of SPAGA and recording the LP locally. “I’d been meditating on the idea of origins and kept coming back to a creed we should all subscribe to: ‘Think Globally, Act Locally,‘” added Magner. “The concept reigns true for SPAGA and really helped to inform the genesis of the band.”

SPAGA made their live debut last October at an event that featured both music and a gourmet meal prepared by award-winning chef Yehuda Sichel. The trio returns to the stage next week at Three Keys At Ace Hotel in New Orleans on April 28 and 29. Magner then leads the band at the Washington D.C. City Winery outpost on June 12. Festival appearances follow with more dates “being planned for later this year.” Listen to “Creed,” which premiered via Relix, below:
