Bonnie Raitt Plays John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” With Ivan Neville & More On ‘Colbert’ [Watch]

75

On Wednesday night, the legendary Bonnie Raitt stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform her rendition of classic John Prine-penned ballad, “Angel From Montgomery”. While “Angel From Montgomery” was written by Prine, Raitt had a hand in bringing it into widespread public consciousness when she included a rendition of it on her 1974 album, Streetlights.

As Bonnie noted in a video posted to her social media accounts ahead of the performance, the song choice was a special request from Colbert himself.

The performance on The Late Show saw Bonnie Raitt perform the song with empowered charisma alongside a band featuring frequent collaborator and New Orleans music legend Ivan Neville on keys and backing vocals. Raitt’s The Late Show performance also follows her recent 10th appearance at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where she performed a number of classics and welcomed yet another notable New Orleans musician, pianist Jon Cleary.
