Dumpstaphunk was supposed to open for The Rolling Stones on the Acura Stage during the first day of the second weekend of Jazz Fest. However, The Stones cancelled their apeparance at the 50th annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival to allow frontman Mick Jagger time to recover from a medical procedure. Ivan Neville & Co. honored The Rolling Stones with help of Stones’ touring member Karl Denson and 15-year-old guitar prodigy Brandon “Taz” Niederauer at Jazz Fest on Thursday.

Denson and Niederauer augmented Dumpstaphunk on a cover of The Rolling Stones’ 1971 gem “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking.” Ivan introduced the Sticky Fingers classic by saying, “Things happen the way they do.” Guitarist Ian Neville shined in playing Keith Richards‘ iconic riff from the song and dueling with “Taz” towards the end of the tune. Nick Daniels put down his bass to handle lead vocals on “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” as Ivan provided harmony vocals. Denson tore it up with a strong saxophone solo before the fretboard fireworks from Taz and Ian.
