Eric Clapton performed the Bob Dylan classic “Alberta” on Wednesday night for the first time in over 20 years. Clapton’s rendition of the song from 1970’s Self-Portrait came as part of the second of three concerts at Royal Albert Hall in London.
Last night’s show started in the same fashion as Monday’s with the exception of a tribute to Doris Day that was played on opening night. The big change came during the acoustic portion when Slowhand subbed “Alberta” for “Change The World.” Clapton last performed “Alberta” way back on September 11, 1998 as per Setlist.FM.
Another substitution between shows was the inclusion of “Little Queen Of Spades” by Robert Johnson as the penultimate song of the concert. Eric played “Five Long Years” on Monday but not on Wednesday. In addition, Clapton ended Monday’s performance with his debut cover of the Prince classic “Purple Rain.” Last night, he brought out guitarist Jimmie Vaughan for Bo Diddley’s “Before You Accuse Me.”
